Day 5……the week is coming to an end soon; .99 cents anyone?

It should be more than a countdown at this point.  After the 7th day the book goes up again.  Who wouldn’t want to start their summer off right?  Who of your friends haven’t read it and are looking for something different to read?

Big Question.  What would you choose.  Submit to the vampire culling, become a rebel IF you survive it, or work your way into becoming a vampire itself?  Those are the questions you should ask yourself.  Some prepared for the Zombie Apocalypse (I know I am) but has anybody prepared for a world where Vampires ruled the earth?  We’re not talking preparing to take over. It WILL happen.  In my book at least.  Check it out after you read the reviews.

DAY 4 .99cents…..have you taken advantage?

Amazon only peeps, I’m gonna crank it back up after day 7.  I thought that I owed a little something extra since I was out of commission for a little while.

Click on the book and it will magically teleport you to a world ripped apart by the emergence of the new dominant race, the vampires.  You’ll meet a strong willed woman who has no choice to move forward considering all the obstacles in her way.  The further she goes the darker she gets, blurring everything she knows about herself.

Day 2 of .99 cents

Waiting until the last day?  Come on Summer madness and grab you an ebook.

cover kindleTell your friends if you’ve liked Rise of a Queen (link on the name) or if they might find it interesting.  There are so many people I know that read only self help books yet suggest it to those that love a true hard as nails, real feeling, vampire story.  It’s not one to be likened to the teen tragedy.  Tessa is strong as are most of the people that come into their lives.  Buy, Love, Share, and prepare for the second which will be in Beta reading soon enough.

One more time, Rise of a Queen;  This Queen earned her title

It seems natural to blog…..but no matter what, it started because I have a book to share

Yes, self promotion.  Obviously I haven’t been doing enough.  It is definitely something I should be doing more of.  My author page is the front of this blog and can easily be reached HERE.

My blogging did start off as an offshoot of my baby, Rise of a Queen.  It is still my primary purpose.  There is no doubt the sequel will find its way out soon, so of course I would like for people to be interested and prepare for the progression of the characters and the storyline.  If you haven’t made your way to my main page, the author page, meander there now.  There are many surprises in store for all and you would be surprised as to how much you might find it intriguing, and its not just for the women-folk.  I don’t know how to write that kind of stuff since I veer from it as much as possible.  Things are not as shallow or placed out in front of you.  Things are more complex in Tessa’s world, everything truly has a purpose especially the darker side of things; those who have read it can back that one up.  I would hate for anyone to miss out on a opportunity to take in some of that.

All available options for e-book and even the physical one can be found HERE.

some heartfelt thoughts and a little talk on my book(s)

Lets see how long this lasts.  I am avoiding scrubbing the tiles, seriously, so a hiding I go.  I dislike this moving process.  I do love that I get to be somewhere else, but the process bites.  I’m hoping its the last one in a long long time and at least I know the area is a good place to be since I lived near there once upon a time.

So I’ve been thinking to myself quite heavily about the things that I am planning on writing next and with the notes I have taken down I think there will be a HUGE dent in it.  It makes me happy and sad at the same time.  Happy because I know what I’m going to do; sad that its difficult to do it at the moment with most things boxed up and I’m working off very few things.  The things that I have to do outweigh the free time I have and that is a frustration and a half.

I have yet to write about Emma, a very good suggestion for a character description.  That child….all I can say is she will hold a strong voice soon enough and she should never be overlooked.  Each one of my characters are a necessity, hardly a single one that is sitting there with no story to tell or to help move it along.  Even this child is hardly a helpless thing.

For those who have read Rise of a Queen, as a beta reader or as someone who really enjoys it, can tell I have a flair for strong characters.  I’m not a fan of weak ones.  Sympathetic/empathetic; maybe.  I think that each and every one of them should be able to hold their own.  It could be the way I was raised, to never be helpless; also having to count on someone 100% of the time is going to give you 50% the fail and that I have learned through my own trial and error; unfortunately I still go through that.  It’s called being human (me, not the characters).  I feel that if I cannot step into the characters shoes and feel/see/do their actions I have failed.  I know, I know, its not that way with all writers.  I just get emotionally involved, even with the ones that people get mad at.  Get this though, if you get mad at them or have any feeling whatsoever I feel like I have done my job.  I get mail or messages asking me questions or telling me “Oh I am at this part and its driving me crazy; please tell me something terrible/good happens to X soon.”  Or I get ones that give me their thoughts on what they expect to come up hoping to get a hint (if I give one it is always of no help but fun to play along) or the best one “Holy Crap I didn’t expect that!”

I may not be Anne Rice, Stephanie Meyers, Stephen King, Clive Barker, Neil Gaiman, or all those others and I’m sure I will never play in their field.  I write to write, realizing that I’m not going to be able to retire on the income.  No big deal.  If people enjoy it then I’ve done my job. I’ve gotten the right book into the right hands.  If they don’t, then obviously we didn’t connect and no hard feelings on either end.  Do know, though, that I am quite passionate at my writing and put every ounce of emotion (and research) that I could possibly put and I would love for those to continue on that journey with me as the series continues.

Taking some time out to say hi

With everything going on in my life I will say that I am much surprised that I got a wee bit of work going on.  I didn’t go to the nearest restaurant like a blogger friend/author suggested and find a napkin to write on, but I did open up my box and grab my notebooks. There have been a lot of things I have been meaning to do regarding book two.  There has been killing, of course, although it wasn’t in one of my fits of madness like I seemed to think.  That was actually done beforehand and it is a very telling situation.  A name for the book is still circling my head and when there are some more readers to Rise of a Queen (you can get it here for ebook and paperback, here, here, here, or here) I would LOVE some input in my email box so as not to give any SPOILERS 😀 Oh do I love River Song.  Oh okay off of Doctor Who, I can’t help it.  I have been signing all my books with my sonic screwdriver pen I love my readers oh so much.

ImageI am trying my hardest to get history/mythology correct with it’s timeline and place it is taking a bit longer than I had expected but in all honesty would you rather a book with something that was completely made up?  “But J.S. you made up your own mythology in Rise of a Queen, so you’re now dealing with a double standard” I hear some of you shout.  Why yes, I did make up one story, the creation.  I got a little tired of the same old crud that was always thrown into people’s faces so I brought something fresh, yet quite believable to the table.  The second one actually continues into more detail in the second book, which is why I am researching so extensively.  I so love research but getting time to do it and write down the notes can be a bit tough.  Then the tougher part, reading my notes and putting into some form of electronic media since that’s how everything is done at this point. Curses!!!! *fist in air*.

Emma and Melinda have their own storyline, Jason finds love, Tessa hunts for the truth, and the end tale of that truth is a reality that surprises even her.  Ok, enough of those spoilers.  Oh hi River, did I bring you up again?

Late at night I’m up, I did try to sleep, honest. Instead I am here, blogging and gathering more information regarding mythology that existed during the Thrace time period and the movements of one great conqueror (possibly, that one is to be determined).

Thank You All For Helping Me and My Twitter Tweeks

As I am getting used to twitter, I feel I am not using it to its full extent.  It frightens me somewhat, but you know the more interaction I get, the better I feel.  I LOVE to interact, my blogger friends and others can tell you I LOVE to talk.  Writing, speaking, texting, everything. Sometimes to a fault.  2 words only?  Ha!  Small sentences? HA!!!! That’s a good one.

Anyway, I have a wonderful reader who won the e-book and am excited to see what they think of the book.  That’s the best part of writing, to find out what people think.  Don’t the rest of you authors agree?  It may not be what you think it is just by reading through the millions of book synopsis, I may not be the best at blurbs, but I bet everyone would be surprised on what they hold in their hands.  So CONGRATS.

Check out upcoming information soon on the next e-book drawing and my reminder about the Goodreads contest.

Rise of a Queen Giveaways!!!!

I have two giveaways going on.  The first one:  If I get 50 followers on twitter & put up interest or comments, they will get a free e-book from me!!!

The 2nd one is recent: I am giving away 2 physical copies (signature included) on Goodreads from May 12th to May 18th.

Just follow the pretty blue links on their names.

The Befuddlement of Twitter

I know I’m not a big twitterer, tweeter, tweeker (no that’s something else) , whatever it is in the twitterverse.  I can tell you this, I am getting the hang of Twitter for sure.  Ok i lie, I am TRYING to get the hang of it. I attempt not to follow too many people that are like my favorite celebrities that I know are snarky and have the best comments.  Its so, so, so hard.  I try to keep it open to a few and make sure that I get the right information for my other author friends and maybe help spread the word.  That’s not too bad.

But I really want to get into it.  I am loving interacting with people, like I love interacting with people here on the blogs and I love stalking a few too. shhhhhhh don’t tell.  Twitter is just a little odd duck.  I barely get the right characters and even then I magically become invisible.  I’ve been trying to get a little thing going.  It’s not too hard, and honestly I am assuming that it will take a while. Understandable.  I plan on giving a free e-book of Rise of a Queen when I reach 50, and probably other times as well.  To me it’s not about sales.  To me its about letting people take a peek at my baby and realize that its not like anything else you’ve ever read.  It’s not full of angsty teenagers, but its not filled with a world full of more traditional Nosferatu style vampires.  The lead character is a female and she’s not all about living her life only to please her man (I take that back, but if you’ve read it you understand, if you haven’t you’ll see.  There is a purpose) . Ugh I hated those “historical romances” my grandmother paraded around with all the time. Love is different and women totally rule this book but its viscous enough for a guy to get really into it, I know a few who have mailed me just for that purpose.

So now that i’m here telling you I’m not trying to sell my book while I discuss it I realize that didn’t go over all too well.  Oops.  See that’s what happens when Drano isn’t working, or my lovely friend calls a brain fart.  Long one.

I’ve had a very exciting few weeks after being on a radio show, seeing a bunch of old friends, may or may not move over the summer (big stress factor but hey that’s life) and I will be seeing of one my old friends again next weekend!!!! So I’m here blogging instead of writing because its something better to do than listen to the rain and try my hardest to figure out how to grow a few characters until they bloom bright.

But I do promise you this.  Anyone who has read Rise of a Queen is going to absolutely LOVE the dynamics, and somewhat irony that happens between Melinda and Emma I can promise you that.

Okay enough enough enough.  Twitter. yes Twitter.  That’s what I was talking about, I think.  Oh goodness maybe a sparkly something came at me and I got distracted.  That’d be the worst.

The more followers I get, the more tweets I put out, the more you can find out about me and my oddness and how more like at least one of you out there even if you think “gasp! I thought I was the only one” and you never know. I might find a great PS3 gaming partner in the process 😉  anybody up for killing zombies?

The Death of a Character: To Mourn or Not to Mourn

I was asked a question earlier by someone I find both wise, endearing, and completely talented in all that she does.  Her question has been bouncing around in my mind and I realize that my answer to her was very swift and two dimensional so maybe I should expand a little on the subject.  The […]
