Back to the Normal Way of Things

The marketing & promotional machine has run out of steam.  It has been a great couple of days. The free book promotion has passed and we’re back to normal. So now my book is in quite a few people’s hands and hopefully those people will enjoy it. Thank you for taking your time out for an Indie I look forward to further interactions and to hear your thoughts and read your reviews.  I love to talk to don’t be shy.

Another thing back to normal? Blogging and being just me.

For those new to my blog will find out I ramble. Sometimes its just a bunch a words and random thoughts, sometimes its something deep and meaningful. No matter what, I try to keep up with it quite a bit. I have made plenty of friends and I think I’ve almost infiltrated a wonderful group of blogging people (and writers, artists, motivators, similar ramblers) and might be able to blend in 😉 On top of that, the interaction with people is phenomenal. I spend a lot of time staring onto notebook paper then deciphering what I have to just stare into a screen.

I do have to admit, when I can’t seem get those words flowing in the middle of the night I end up being a bit lazy and watch Netflix movies (watched Tai Chi Zero followed by Tai Chi Hero. If you don’t mind subtitles, I highly recommend) or play horror/survival video games. I’m quite a geek you see and very proud of it. I was quite sad that I couldn’t go to DragonCon again this year, but one day this will happen, I promise you that. I grew up standing the line between Star Trek and Star Wars never choosing a side. I have been a devoted Doctor Who fan since I was a child, I love vampires and zombies unless they come with a sappy love story then I run and hide. Yeah, we won’t go into me too much, you’ll learn 🙂

I have a horrid time with social media, although I have gotten better. I still don’t utilize what is all out there and cannot seem to find my way out of the paper sack of marketing, wishing someone would be lovely enough to do all of that for me for free 😀 since my money is being saved to take care of my sick little Ares, my adorably Miniature Pinscher. The whole time trying to keep the other furrling, River, occupied (or occupying me depending on the boredom factor).

Maybe something amazing will happen today and I will get the right motivation to write chapter upon chapter, but I will be satisfied with a few thousand words for now. More coffee though, definitely more coffee.

Rise of a Queen Giveaways!!!!

I have two giveaways going on.  The first one:  If I get 50 followers on twitter & put up interest or comments, they will get a free e-book from me!!!

The 2nd one is recent: I am giving away 2 physical copies (signature included) on Goodreads from May 12th to May 18th.

Just follow the pretty blue links on their names.

Next step for Drano

I’m clogged.  Maybe its because I’ve been preoccupied. Life has taken a major turn and it is giving me absolutely nothing to work with but a whole slew of emotions.

Emotions….can’t we treat them like emoticons?  And can we not decipher them better? Usually they are a great thing, bringing thoughts to my mind on a certain part of writing.  Unfortunately there is no way for me to write about this.  Maybe, but not sure yet.

Emma and Melinda/ their story is told up until a pinacle moment.  Ariana/Jason are slowly coming together and I’m liking the direction its headed.

It’s the Tessa part that has me stumped.  I want her on a journey. I want her to do what she does best, research and be determined to find out the truth behind everything, all the while holding down the fort.

A BIG Question.  Some seem to be team Greco and some seem to be team Isaac (thank you Meyers for coining that stupid phrase).  Tessa needs a love.  I know its not a love story, but she needs an anchor.  Isaac, after a traumatic experience, do you think that he can come back as a strong character. I really want him strong.  Not like Tessa, but it is super duper hard.  For those who have read It can give me an opinion, of course spoiler alert attached. But I NEED feedback.

Book giveaway idea?

When I hear back from the one who won the last e-book giveaway I have been contemplating another one.  But this time it may be a little more complicated.  The last time it was about 45 minutes surprise on Twitter.  I’m taking to wordpress (yes it goes off to other pages but my WP family are ones who are my lovies, even those who are quiet.  Maybe this will bring you out of the shell.

I’m looking for ideas on how to go about doing this, and maybe if it gets successful I may even have a paperback I can send you if I get enough feedback.  Sound fair?

Now, a few concepts have come to my attention, one being concept art.  But obviously those are readers who have a feel for the characters.  So what else would be an interesting topic to start the give-away? maybe even a few review wouldn’t hurt either.

I eat up mythology of all kinds

Those who know me, know this.  Especially Greek and Roman, I’m learning Norse/old Germanic and some Gaelic tales too.  They all facinate me in the art of storytelling.  Nothing makes me happier to sit around a group of kids and tell a PGish version (of thats what the parents want) of the tales, and then wait for the lingerers to ask what really happened and explaining why those myths came about.  I admit it.  I’m a Myth whore. I can’t get enough, especially Greek.  I suppose that’s why I have been signing up left and right on Coursera to get into the classes just to learn.  Certificate of completion is great and all but I absorb the learning part of it.

Those who have read Rise of a Queen and know a little of the books to come, history and mythology go hand in hand.  Lots of research done and so many things to choose from because I dare not chose a tale that everyone knows.  What would be the fun in that?  It definitely beats researching state run insane asylums ages ago, I will get back to that once again when those nightmares wear off.

How much of mythology, of history, or even of yourself do you put into your work of art, whatever it may be.  Writing, painting, music, anything you consider your special talent that you most definitely need to share with the world.

I have put a lot of myself into my characters, I can breath each and every one of them as if their breathe were mine, I can see from their eyes, I can feel from their souls (the ones that have them).  It could be why it gets to be difficult when I have to write certain scenes that I want to be perfect and as tasteful as possible yet still fill the element of the story to continue its place.  A need for everything, I say.  I will let you know I am definitely not Tessa as some seem to think, she is just my character, but I have on occasion become the Queen in my mind.  Do you become any character of yours?

Also, have you ever realized how long your writing actually ends up being? Do you dare add to it or cut it?  I am quite afraid I will want to cut the 2nd in the series and I scream to do no such thing.

I may have broken some of Ionia’s rules 😉 but its okay, I’m sure she’ll get me back somewhere along the way

The Cat is out of the bag or shall I say paperback?

It is true! The book went live this morning HERE in paperback. I was looking for a good launch date, but when really can there be a good launch date?  They have yet to merge the Kindle and the physical together yet, I was given a week for that to happen.

So yes, Nice smelly fresh paper and ink, the nice thing to bring into the bath while relaxing away from the kids, or with the door closed hiding from those during lunch because your coworkers do nothing but talk about what is going on in the newest reality drama. There is something about a paperback that makes a person feel like they’re reading a real book. Don’t get me wrong, I like e-books, my book started off as an e-book (That is still out there! Don’t forget that, check out my main page for the links), but the question kept coming up. “Paperback?” I listened and it is out there for people to read or use as a nice doorstop or paperweight (it can make for a great throwing object when a tad upset too).

Now that the e-book is out most places, Amazon is the first to have my paperback up, I can happily hide myself in my notepad once again to move toward my goal of finishing the second of the series within a 6 month period (Don’t hold me on it, there is this evil thing that lurks called writers block from time to time.  The good news is, the 2nd unnamed one is halfway done!

For now, Rise of a Queen should, hopefully, do well enough to keep you interested to continue the series or completely satisfied in the ending on its own. Nothing like the joy of vindictive vampire justice to finish up a book now is there?  Oops, that cat is out of the bag now too. 🙂

Gonna get a little personal up in here now.

All this talk of me being drug down into the dirt fighting off the social flies has got me tired. So, I’m going to turn the pages…..just a tad.

I’ve obviously come to love throwing this out there. I do promise you will never get a political or religious rant out of be because that’s not who I am.

So here’s ya go: A look inside a somewhat un-psychotic writer of Dark Fantasy. Is that even possible? We will see.  You be the judge.

So here it is.  I’m new to the game. Brand spanking baby on the bottom in the delivery room new.  I’m getting a little guidance on the way, and obviously still trying to fumble through the mass amounts of information that gets thrown in my way.  Do this, don’t do that, blah blah blah blah blah. Honestly I just want to tell you about my book, why I think you will like it and why you would want to buy it.  Its a stand alone, even though its in a series.  It is a span of time, so no cliffhangers.

Oh yeah. Me :D:D:D:D

I was born in Oxford, US to two military parents. We moved around a lot, they divorced. Drama, drama, drama, blah blah blah. Honestly I don’t talk about me much. I have the gift of gab but most of it really doesn’t amount to anything persona.  As you have made the assumption by my simple profile picture, I walk to the beat of a different drummer. I buck the system of the world and go wild and crazy with my hair choices and a hidden nose ring up in there somewhere. yep, I’m pierced. Not where all the girls do because the regret of a naval ring exploding during pregnancy (not to mention that tattoo) omg its horendous.

As mentioned before I love books, music, movies and video games.  I mentioned my books, the music matters only if it is the disturbance of country making my ears bleed.  Sorry, thats the way it goes.  But people love me anyway.  I’m told I’m the life of the party, well that is to be determined because I don’t get to do that too much.  I spend a lot of time being a recluse between writing and killing alien species on another planet (Dead Space 3 rocks by the way) or straight up zombie boobs.  I’m exploring some retro games as we speak also.  I love horror movies, especially if thy don’t come with a plot I can easily figure out.  Maybe its the life of a writer, always trying to figure out the twists and turns.

My goal is not to be a famous writer, I’ve come to that conclusion.  But I do want people to enjoy what I have written to share.  My ultimate goal is for the reader to see what I saw, felt what I felt, live every moment as I did through the pages turning in my mind and into the crazy PC format I am disliking each and every day.

Actually my current goal is to help pay bills. Simple.  My step up goal is to meet up with friends I haven’t seen in 21 years (Junior high, overseas so don’t get your knickers twisted).  I know its not much to ask but plane tickets are expensive as hell, you know?  Kindle is obviously sticking the indie’s in the back, I had to help navigate a friend to the one in the UK and it completely different.  It seems as though you have to put The Vampire Realm with it.  Crazy. And my genre’s aren’t what I wanted but its what they offered, so meh.  I’m watching the clock as I’m waiting for distribution to the other big chains.  At that point I’m hoping I will get a little more notice.  But people, if you would like to point me in the right direction or lead me somewhere, then by all means get it.  Even message me if you can.  No biggie.  I’m real and I don’t bite…..not this time.
